Community Service

Awards

April 2016, the owner of American Refuse was given U.S. Congressional Recognition by Congressman David Valadao for outstanding and invaluable service to the community.

Sept 2014 – Waste Reduction Award given by Kern Green at annual awards banquet to Carousel Recycling for completion of a Material Recovery Facility.

American Refuse was awarded the 2010 & 2011 Sponsor of the year for the Kern County Sheriff’s Activity League (SAL) – Wasco. SAL is a private organization which offers activities to the youth of Kern County as a deterrent to drugs and gangs. Through its volunteers, it hopes to promote goal setting and leadership as opposed to a criminal lifestyle for our youth. We support our future generations!

Supporting Our Communities

American Refuse continues its ongoing support to many athletic teams and athletes in our communities. We have sponsored sports teams in the Wasco and Shafter parks and recreation departments for many years. We are a supporter of the Wasco High School Athletics department as well as Shafter High School Athletics department with specific donations to the Cross- Country team; Shafter Boosters Club; Shafter High School, and weight room for students. In March 2017, American Refuse supported the Shafter Boxing Club in their hosted event “March Knockouts”.

We like to have fun too! We have supported both Wasco and Shafter July firework celebrations for the past few years! Happy Independence Day!

Did you know that American Refuse donates all the proceeds from the Richland Middle School and Shafter Corporate yard recycle bins back to the student body at Richland Middle School?

Education in and out of the classroom is important to American Refuse. The company’s owners  continue to support our youth in FFA and 4-H, as well as other educational venues.

In Spring of 2015, American Refuse donated services to “Rebuilding Together-Kern County” to help clean up a veteran’s home and property.

We like to keep our cities clean and promote recycling for a cleaner environment

American Refuse continues to work with the City of Wasco and the Kern County Supervisor  to create the community clean-up events that happen twice a year. These events have grown in popularity and are a great asset to keeping the community clean. American Refuse has provided employees, roll offs, front loaders, and skip loaders, and our employees time to help with community clean ups.

American Refuse has donated blue cart recycling cans to many events in Shafter and Wasco. With the large crowds, we hope to do our part to create ease of use and promote recycling at these large events held in the cities. Examples are the Wasco/Shafter Relay for Life, Shafter Colours Celebration, Shafter Cinco De May Celebration, Shafter 3rd of July Fireworks Celebration, and other events.

Each year American Refuse provides 2 roll-offs each to the cities of Wasco and Shafter. This is a free service provided by American Refuse to encourage Christmas tree recycling.

In an event to show appreciation to those whom recycle in Shafter and Wasco through our voluntary recycling program, a thank you note and free grocery bag with recycling promotional material on it was given to each customer.

To promote recycling American Refuse gave out 500 of our recycling bags to Shafter residents in multi-family dwellings in April of 2017. We also handed out another 400 recycling bags during the Apple Market 20 year celebration to Shafter residents.
